OrbiWise Demos Firmware Updates Over The Air for Sampols Noise Management Solution at LoRaWAN® World Expo 2022

July 6, 2022 – Paris, France  OrbiWise, a leading provider of advanced technologies to the IoT Industry featuring LoRaWAN® , in collaboration with IMST, an industrial engineering and design company, will demonstrate the power of FUOTA capabilities on OrbiWise’s Noise Management Solution, Sampols, at the LoRaWAN World Expo in Paris on July 6 and 7.

The Sampols devices are embedding IMST’s pre-certified module to add LoRaWAN functionalities onto the firmware. The FUOTA capabilities will be demonstrated via the integrated FUOTA server in the Sampols Noise-Application at the very first edition of the LoRa Alliance’s global LoRaWAN trade show.

The Sampols noise sensor is an outdoor high-performance low-cost remote wireless sensor for acoustic noise measurement, capable of measuring relevant noise parameters (Leq, L10, L50, L90, L95, etc). It is very easy to install with minimal maintenance necessary and battery-operated providing continuous measurements for up to 12 months.

Combined with the solution’s intuitive noise application cities and companies can monitor and analyze noise levels over ultra-wide areas in real time. The goal is to identify and reduce life-threatening and troublesome noise pollution levels throughout whole urban areas. Sampols solutions are already being put to use by Chevron in Los Angeles and city departments in Geneva.

“This collaboration is of important added value to the service of our Sampols solution”, said Domenico Arpaia, CEO of OrbiWise. “For increased customer satisfaction we are continuously looking at how to improve our products in any possible way. In large-scale deployments and hard to reach places such as industrial sites, FUOTA is extremely relevant when securely updating multiple devices with new features and possible patches without intervention on site.”

Though the Sampols noise sensor can currently be updated using class A or multicast class C, OrbiWise and IMST are collaborating on implementing Multicast class B FUOTA in the near future for optimal FUOTA functionalities. Class B devices allow for additional windows to send downlink messages from gateway to device. In addition, the two companies are collaborating on creating a new device that includes features of the LoRaWAN Stack.

“The global environmental monitoring market is predicted to continue growing and LoRaWAN is already providing a significant added value to this industry,” said Heinz Syrzisko, head of Wireless Solutions at IMST GmbH. “IMST radio modules included in OrbiWise’s noise pollution sensor leverage the long range and low power of LoRa® to provide real-time data analysis.”

The FUOTA demo, which is made available at OrbiWise’s booth and demo space, will prove how their collaboration with IMST has produced optimal FUOTA in a practical, real product environment and shows how the interface handles noise device updates by obtaining update fragments. In other words, audiences will experience a maintenance use case via updates within the application itself.

IMST and OrbiWise warmly welcome interested attendees to visit the demo space for a deep dive into FUOTA.
