The City of Calgary is continuing to push the bounds of technology innovation with the launch of their enterprise-grade private LoRaWAN™ IoT (Internet of Things) Network. Calgary has long been involved in IoT. But they now have a new private, city-wide Network – based on industry leading IoT solutions provider OrbiWise’s OrbiWAN™ LoRaWAN™ Network Server (LNS). A Network enables The City to utilize a multitude of different sensors and devices to connect wirelessly and send valuable data for analysis and action or actuate a local device function (on/off for example).
The City of Calgary is leveraging IoT and LoRaWAN™ technologies to enhance service delivery. The Network will cover most areas of the city, enabling multitudes of different use cases for City business units to better serve Calgarians. Sensors will deliver valuable data such as traffic noise level monitoring on city streets, soil moisture in City parks and green spaces, environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light level, more), water levels in City sewer or bodies of water, managing City parking spaces, street-light management (on/off/dim/power efficiency), water management at City facilities, condition of City buildings and structures, and many more.
After having been selected following a rigorous City of Calgary RFP process, OrbiWise will now directly support The City’s ambitions in IoT and LoRaWAN™ with a network based on the latest version of the OrbiWAN™ LNS. OrbiWAN™ is the “brains” of a Network and manages the gateways, devices, servers, device/data applications and other advanced network features such as device FUOTA (Firmware Update Over The Air), LoRaWAN™ Relay, Disaster Recovery and much more.
