SWAN and OrbiWise announce their strategic alliance to accelerate the deployment of professional IoT solutions in Slovakia, with specific focus on the Smart-City and Industry 4.0 markets.
Geneva, Switzerland and Bratislava, Slovakia – May 18, 2021
SWAN, a rapidly-developing Slovak telecommunications service provider, and OrbiWise, a leading provider of advanced technologies to the IoT Industry, today announced their partnership to accelerate the deployment of professional IoT solutions in Slovakia, with specific focus on the Smart-City and Industry 4.0 markets.
SWAN is deploying a state-of-the-art LoRaWAN® Network in Slovakia using OrbiWANTM, OrbiWise’ carrier-grade LoRaWAN® Network Server.
“We are very pleased to be able to work with an internationally recognized partner in providing IoT solutions to OrbiWise,” said Augustin Revak, Chief Strategy Officer of SWAN and he added “It is a big step for us to build a better tomorrow in several areas of our daily life.”
“SWAN is an innovative service provider with deep expertise in the IoT space. We are proud to work with them to foster the deployment of IoT products and services in the Slovakian market,” said Domenico Arpaia, OrbiWise CEO.
The first solution offered by SWAN to their customers entails the centralized smart control of special parking areas including charging facilities for electric vehicles within the framework of a broader Green Sustainability Plan, with all the data collected by a dedicated application developed by SWAN itself. A professional air-quality monitoring solution is also offered to SWAN customers: the solution can monitor all main air pollutants, including particulate matter, organic compounds and common gas pollutants.
The inhabitants of Banská Bystrica, where the pilot project of intelligent parking has started, can see for themselves the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two companies. Since the beginning of April, a new form of parking has been launched for all residents as well as visitors to the city. Drivers no longer have to circle headless and look for a free parking space, as the vacancies will be remotely informed by an application that collects data from special parking sensors that are installed in the city center and use technological solutions from OrbiWise and SWAN.
The CVAK application is freely available for download for mobile phones with the Android OS and iOS operating systems. Through the application, drivers can find out the current status of parking spaces, make a reservation of a place remotely, be guided to a specific free space, but most importantly, pay conveniently without having to get out of the car. The joint technological solution of both companies SWAN and OrbiWise is used in practice by the company EEI, which covers the entire smart parking project directly in Banská Bystrica.
“Our goal was to make comfortable modern technologies available to the general public in order to save them time in the need to find a free parking space. And not only that, such an intelligent way of smart parking has a positive effect on the overall flow of traffic, including the reduction of emissions. We don’t have to go into details, but each of us, the drivers, has already experienced many events when he crossed one and the same street 3 times, hoping that he would be able to park, because in his mind he believes that someone left in that short time, “Augustin Revak, CSO of SWAN.
Modern sensors, which are implemented in the roadway of the parking space, continuously monitor the occupancy of the parking space and inform future tenants of the parking space about its current occupancy. The data from these sensors are updated over time and provide real information about the overall condition to all drivers who have downloaded the application on their mobile and plan to use some of these places for short-term parking.
In addition to easier search and more convenient parking, intelligent parking also has another dimension, the ecological impact on the air in the city center. By improving parking conditions, you can save not only time, but also partially reduce emissions, which are created unnecessarily when looking for free parking spaces. Besides of parking solutions, SWAN also offers various air quality meters that operate continuously and inform about current conditions.
One of the pilot sites that use this type of sensor and overall data collection is the Lamac district in Bratislava, which has prepared an ecological novelty for its inhabitants. Special sensors, which are located in several places of the Lamac, continuously monitor the condition and quality of the air.
The collected data are automatically stored in the cloud and presented via a special “dashboard” interface on an information smart board, which is located in close proximity to the Lamac Municipal Office. Implemented smart sensors, in addition to air quality, also record the following VOC values, are volatile organic compounds that have toxic properties and negatively affect the atmosphere and human health. Among the best known are benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, metychloride, which cause fatal consequences for human health. The volume of volatile organic compounds increases with the intensity of car traffic, which makes the necessary monitoring of air focused on aromatic hydrocarbons, which cause the formation of ground-level, tropospheric ozone, which increases the risk of chronic diseases, including various cancers.
“The main goal of each part of the city is to create the most ideal conditions for the life of its inhabitants. We are very pleased that the Lamac district has decided for our specific smart metering solution, air quality monitoring, which provides up-to-date information on the state of the air to the inhabitants of the city district,” said Augustin Revak, CSO of SWAN, and at the same time he added “Not only to point out air quality, but in a way to motivate people to start thinking about the possible environmental impact, which they may not even be aware of yet.“
